Magog hosts 10th annual Seniors’ Day May 7

Some 500 seniors are expected to attend the 10th annual seniors’ day in Magog to learn more about goods and services available in the area.

Irene Humphrey who has been a key volunteer behind the event since its inception said 28 booths have been reserved and the day’s events will include guest speakers, theatre presentations, and a good belly laugh.

The $5 fee will cover the cost of a buffet lunch and will provide access to the days events from 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Dr. Wayne Smith, an emergency room physician will kick off the day with some advice on staying young and vital. Following a question and answer period, visitors will be free to visit the booths and learn more about community organizations in their midst such as Mental Health Estrie, Townshippers’ Foundation, the Magog Historical Society, the Alzheimer’s’ Society and Epilepsy group as well as the Sherbrooke Geriatric University Society and many of the region’s seniors’ residences.

Reverend Dean Moffat will lead a tribute to George Smiley, a former Magog resident who bequeathed funds for the dialysis unit at La Providence Hospital. Other highlights include a motivational talk by Solmen Goodman and skits performed by a local theatre group. Of course, there will be music and who better to lead participants in a sing-along of old time favourites than Lise Flanders.

Buses will be leaving Lennoxville and Richmond to bring seniors to the event, which will take place at the Magog area May 7.

Tickets are available in advance, so reserve yours soon. Contact Marty Paterson at 819-566-5717 (1-866-566- 5717) or hal@townshippers.qc.ca.
